Mother, by Herbert Farnham

 God took the fragrance of a flower The majesty of a tree

 The gentleness of morning dew The calm of a quiet sea

 The beauty of the twilight hour The soul of a starry night

 The laughter of a rippling brook The grace of a bird in flight

 Then God fashioned from these things A creation like no other

 And when his masterpiece was through He called it simply – Mother

Mother’s Day

MOTHER’S Day is a special day to honor our MOTHERS, which is in accord with the fifth commandment (Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you”).

The origin of this special day is traced back to a request by Miss Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia for a special church service to be held in memory of her MOTHER. This event took place on May 10th in 1908. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially set aside the second Sunday in May as MOTHER’S day.

Consider how you will honor your MOTHER this day. Even if she is no longer living, you can honor her life and her mark upon your life and the life of many others.

I encourage you to open your Bible to Proverbs 31:10-31, and read it. Listed below are just 2 of those verses (28-29):

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’

Grace and Peace, be with you and your family;

Pastor Darrell Weber
